Protection of Personal Data

In April 2021, the Inter-American Juridical Committee approved the “Updated Principles on privacy and the protection of personal data with notes,” resolution CJI / Res.266, contained in the corresponding report, in accordance with a mandate from the General Assembly.

In October 2021, the OAS General Assembly adopted the “Updated Principles on Privacy and Personal Data Protection” and requested the Department of International Law to disseminate them as widely as possible, resolution AG/RES. 2974 (LI-O/21).

The Updated Principles on Privacy and Protection of Personal Data are available in the official languages of the OAS:

It must be noted that the original proposal was adopted in March, 2015, through resolution Proposal on OAS Principles on Privacy and Personal Data Protection with annotations, CJI/Res. 212/15, contained in the corresponding report.
