Course on Fundamental Elements for Identification and Protection of Stateless Persons and Prevention and Reduction of Statelessness in the Americas (CJPA, 2015)


The Department of International Law of the Secretariat for Legal Affairs is pleased to announce that registration for the “Course on Fundamental Elements for Identification and Protection of Stateless Persons and Prevention and Reduction of Statelessness in the Americas” is currently open. The event will take place on February 12, 2015, at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS).

Course on Fundamental Elements for Identification and Protection of Stateless Persons and Prevention and Reduction of Statelessness in the Americas (CJPA, 2015)

Mandate. OAS General Assembly resolution AG/RES. 2826 (XLIV-O/14), “Protection of Asylum Seekers and Refugees in the Americas,” instructed the Permanent Council, through the Committee on Juridical and Political Affairs (CJPA) and with support from the Department of International Law of the General Secretariat and such technical and financial cooperation as may be provided by the UNHCR, to continue emphasizing the problems of statelessness in its promotional and training activities and to organize, during the first quarter of 2015, an international course on statelessness for members of the permanent missions of the member states, the staff of the General Secretariat, and other interested parties.

Pursuant to this mandate, the CJPA decided in its session of September 15, 2014, to hold a “Course on Fundamental Elements for Identification and Protection of Stateless Persons and Prevention and Reduction of Statelessness in the Americas”.

COURSE DETAILS

Place and date. The event will take place on February 12, 2015, at the headquarters of the OAS: 1889 F St. NW, Washington, D.C. (Ruben Dario Room).

Participation. The course is open to staff of the permanent missions, staff of the General Secretariat, as well as for other interested persons.

Languages. The course will be held in English and Spanish, with simultaneous interpretation available in the four official languages of the Organization.

Webcast. The course will be transmitted live via webcast at the following site, for which no registration is necessary: http://www.oas.org/en/media_center/webcast.asp.

Certificates of attendance. Certificates of attendance will be provided to registered participants who attend all classes at the physical location of the course. Certificates will be mailed once the course is over to the address indicated in the registration form. Those following the course via webcast will not be entitled to receive a certificate.
