The Fifteenth Meeting of Negotiations in the Quest for Points of Consensus was held at OAS headquarters from February 9-11, 2015, in fulfillment of operative paragraph 3 of resolution AG/RES. 2867 (XLIV-O/14).
Chair of the Working Group,
Ambassador Diego Pary Rodríguez, Permanent
Representative of Bolivia to the OAS, presided
over the plenary. The Working Group's Vice
Chair, Ambassador Elisa Ruiz Díaz Bareiro,
Permanent Representative of Paraguay, also took
part.
Four representatives elected
at the last Meeting of Negotiations took part as
well, pursuant to Permanent Council resolution
CP/RES. 951 (1691/09), which regulates the
operations of the Specific Fund to support
preparation of the American Declaration on the
Rights of Indigenous Peoples. In all,
twenty-three indigenous people's representatives
from various member states attended the Meeting.
The sessions were webcast live over the OAS
website, allowing representatives of indigenous
peoples across the Hemisphere to follow them
from their own communities.
The following were the
outcomes of the Fifteenth Meeting of
Negotiations in the Quest for Points of
Consensus:
Articles approved: XX
(paragraph 2), XXIX (paragraphs 2 and 4), and
XXXI (paragraph 1), this latter article approved
in its entirety.
Articles that were approved
pending consultation by the delegations: III,
IV, XXIX (paragraphs 1 and 5). Finally, the
following articles were considered, with
approval pending: XVI (paragraph 2), XVIII
(paragraph 2), XX (paragraph 1), XXIX
(paragraphs 3 and 6), and XXX in its entirety.
The Sixteenth Meeting of
Negotiations will be held from March 9-11, 2015,
at OAS headquarters (See
convocation notice).
