The XLII Course on International Law, entitled "The Current Inter-American Legal Agenda," took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August 3 to 21, 2015.
The inauguration was attended
by: Dr. Luis Almagro, OAS Secretary General; the
Vice Chair of the Inter-American Juridical
Committee, Dr. Carlos Mata; the Legal Consultant
of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil,
Dr. Antonio Paulo Cachapuz de Madeiros; and the
OAS Secretary for Legal Affairs, Dr. Jean Michel
Arrighi.
The course lasted three
weeks, during which participants received
specialized classes on latest developments in
international law and international relations.
They were taught by
outstanding scholars and specialists in
international affairs and law, including judges
of international courts, members of the
Inter-American Juridical Committee, professors
of international law from the Americas and
Europe, diplomats, and staff members of several
international organizations.
Those teaching at the XLII
Course on International Law included, in
particular, Dr. Antonio Cançado Trindade, a
judge of the International Court of Justice; Dr.
Eduardo Vio Grossi; a judge at the
Inter-American Court of Human Rights; Dr.Edison
Lanza, the Special Rapporteur for Freedom of
Expression of the Inter-American Commission on
Human Rights; Dr. Pierre Olivier Sur, President
of the Paris Bar Association; and Dr. Mónica
Pinto, Dean of the Law Faculty of the University
of Buenos Aires.
The Course on International
Law is an internationally renowned academic
activity organized each year by the
Inter-American Juridical Committee and the
Department of International Law of the
Secretariat for Legal Affairs. It is one of the
activities envisaged in the Inter-American
Program for the Development of International
Law, adopted by the OAS General Assembly to
promote and disseminate international law and
the inter-American agenda.
