OAS launches virtual course on “Inter-American System” for the Diplomatic Academy of Uruguay


OEA inaugura curso virtual sobre el “Sistema Interamericano” para la Academia Diplomática del Uruguay

On March 4, 2022, began the virtual course on the “Inter-American System” for the Diplomatic Academy of Uruguay, which will last two weeks, ending on March 15, 2022.

This initiative is part of the Inter-American Program for the Development of International Law adopted by the OAS General Assembly in 1996 and updated in 2011, these activities also fulfill an OAS mandate to promote training and knowledge exchange with the region’s foreign affairs ministries.

This OAS course will examine the structure and evolution of the OAS as well as developments in terms of the promotion of democracy and the codification and progressive development of international law in the Inter-American system. Likewise, the latest legal development will be featured.

Those on hand for the opening session included the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, Ambassador Francisco Bustillo, the Secretary General of the Organization of American States, Dr. Luis Almagro, the Permanent Representative of Uruguay to the OAS, Ambassador Dr. Washington Abdala, Dr. Jean-Michel Arrighi, Secretary for Legal Affairs of the OAS, and Dr. Dante Negro, Director of the Department of International Law of the OAS.
