OAS launches II virtual refresher course on Inter-American Juridical System for the Diplomatic Academy of Guatemala

On May 31, 2022, began the virtual refresher course on the Inter-American Juridical System for the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, which will last five weeks, ending on Tuesday, June 28th, 2022.

This initiative is part of the Inter-American Program for the Development of International Law adopted by the OAS General Assembly in 1996 and updated in 2011; this activity also fulfills an OAS mandate to promote training and knowledge exchange with the region’s foreign affairs ministries.

This II Course will analyze the structure and evolution of the OAS, issues related to democracy and fight against corruption and the codification and promotion of the progressive development of international law. The program also foresees the treatment of recent topics addressed by the Inter-American Juridical Committee, as well as developments within the Organization regarding the Inter-American Business Charter and the rights of migrants.

The opening session was attended by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Ambassador Ava Atzum Arévalo, Ambassador Rita Claverie, Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the OAS, and Dr. Luis Toro Utillano, Senior Legal Officer of the Department of International Law of the OAS.
