Implementation Report on the Inter-American Program for the Development of International Law

The Department of International Law, in accordance with resolution AG/RES. 2852 (XLIV-O/14), submitted an implementation report on the Inter-American Program for the Development of International Law for the 2014-2015 period to the OAS Committee on Juridical and Political Affairs (CAJP) at the headquarters of the Organization on April 30, 2015.

Implementation Report on the Inter-American Program for the Development of International Law

The Inter-American Program for the Development of International Law was adopted by the OAS General Assembly in 1997 and updated in 2011. It is the principal tool on which the Organization relies to promote and propagate international law and the inter-American system, doing so via an array of specific activities, including training courses, seminars, educational events, publications, and dissemination of inter-American treaties over the Internet, among others.

Under the Program, the Department of International Law bears chief responsibility for its implementation in the framework of the General Secretariat. It is worth recalling that Article 3 of the Charter of the Organization of American States provides that international law is the standard of conduct of States in their reciprocal relations; hence the great importance that the political organs of the Organization have attributed to the Program over the years.

At the end of the presentation, several delegations expressed their support for the Program and the work of the Department of International Law.
