Culminates the 92nd regular session of the Inter-American Juridical Committee (CJI)

El Comité Jurídico Interamericano (CJI) culmina su 92º período ordinario de sesiones

The CJI successfully completed its 92nd Regular Session in Mexico City, D.F., where it met on February 26-March 2 at the invitation of the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico.

On the occasion, the CJI addressed various issues on its agenda, such as “binding and non-binding “agreements, for which a practical guide is being prepared; the “immunities of international organizations,” for which a final report is expected to be approved during the course of this year; “international contracts”, for which a practical guide is being developed in consultation with numerous specialists in the field. There were also discussions on the “recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments and awards”, and the “control of conventionality”, both themes recently incorporated into this body’s working agenda. Likewise, the CJI reincorporated the issues of “access to public information” and “protection of personal data”, in the light of pertinent new legal developments on the regional and universal level.

On the other hand, the members of the Committee held meetings with several specialists in the field of public and private international law, as well as with high public officials of the Mexican government, including representatives of the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic and the Secretariat of Interior. The CJI held meetings with members of the Commission of Foreign Affairs Advisors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, paid a visit to the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, and took part in a series of talks with professors of the Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where an exchange of opinions was held on the work performed by the Committee.

The next session of the CJI will be held at its headquarters in the city of Rio de Janeiro, from August 6, in accordance with the agenda approved at the session.
