Promotes the Development of International Law

One of the functions of the Department of International Law (DIL) is to promote and develop international law, to which end it conducts a variety of activities.

In 1996, the OAS General Assembly adopted the [Declaration of Panama on the Inter-American Contribution to the Development and Codification of International Law]. With that Declaration in mind, in 1997 the OAS General Assembly adopted the Inter-American Program for the Development of International Law. More recently, in 2011, an OAS General Assembly resolution updated that program.
