Principles of the CJI

The Inter-American Juridical Committee (CJI), motivated by the adoption and implementation of laws on access to public information by an increasing number of States in the Americas, and in order to offer inputs to support the drafting and implementation of laws that make this right effective, developed ten principles related to the right of access to public information.

These principles, which are interrelated and must be understood and interpreted as a whole, were approved unanimously in August 2008 and have been the guiding thread of the Organization's subsequent work on this issue.
