The Department of International Affairs (DIA) is responsible for promoting relations with Permanent Observers and mobilizing external resources for the programs developed by the Organization; developing and executing strategies to broaden civil society participation in the Organization’s activities; promoting policy cooperation with international organizations of the United Nations and Inter-American Systems and other regional organizations; as well as coordinating outreach programs to the public through the Lecture Series of the Americas, OAS Policy Roundtables and Tour and Briefing Program.
The Permanent Observer Relations Section develops strategies to promote the participation of the Permanent Observers in the activities and meetings of the OAS, as well as their involvement in the programs executed by the Organization.
The Civil Society Relations Section serves as a liason between civil society organizations and the OAS by promoting their participation in meetings of the Organization’s political organs, agencies and entities and creating spaces for dialogue and partnership between civil society and OAS Member States.
The Relations with International Organizations Section is in charge of the cooperation with international and regional organizations to facilitate the exchange of experiences and broaden the impact of the projects developed by the OAS.
The Outreach Program Section coordinates the Lecture Series of the Americas, the OAS Policy Roundtables and the Tour and Briefing Program, enriching the discussion of the hemispheric agenda and generating awareness on the work of the OAS.
