OAS-SEDI: Forging New Partnerships for Development

Recognized Universities from Colombia and Peru join the OAS Scholarship program - PAECOAS - Mexican State of Chiapas to Cooperate on Integral Development. The OAS and the Mexican state of Chiapas have entered into an agreement for the exchange of knowledge and sharing of experiences between both entities on a number of areas covered by OAS programs. At the signing, Governor Manuel Velasco Coello specifically referenced a willingness to share with other countries in the region the experience of rehabilitation programs for drug dependents in Chiapas as an alternative to incarceration for minor offenses.

OAS - UNEP join forces on Environmental Rule of Law and Sustainable Development.OAS - UNEP join forces on Environmental Rule of Law and Sustainable Development. Amidst the Global South-South Development Expo of the United Nations, the OAS and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate in the fostering of respect for environmental laws and sustainable development. Initial stages of this collaboration will cover the implementation of an Inter-American Judicial Capacity Building Program on Environmental Rule of Law; the establishment of an Inter-American congress on Environmental Rule of Law; and will seek to strengthen the role of parliamentarians and facilitate international exchange of best practices on environmental legislation.

Recognized Universities from Colombia and Peru join the OAS Scholarship program - PAECOAS-London Academy of Diplomacy strengthen collaboration. An OAS Permanent Council meeting this month spurred a dynamic discussion on the nexus between diplomacy and sustainable economic development in the region. Discussion topics included the issue of Diplomacy and Development in a Complex Global Environment, as presented by special guest and Director of the London Academy of Diplomacy Joseph Mifsud. During his visit, Mifsud finalized the details of a Cooperation Agreement to be signed between the General Secretariat of the OAS through the Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI) and the London Academy of Diplomacy in early 2015 that will establish a framework for cooperation to strengthen education for individuals interested in the field of international relations, and join efforts on strengthening activities related to human development, education and diplomacy.

OAS - ADA University of AzerbaijanOAS - ADA University of Azerbaijan to offer new scholarship opportunities.
The OAS entered into an agreement with ADA University of Azerbaijan that will facilitate scholarship programs, the exchange of students and teachers between ADA University and universities in the OAS member states, and participation in research projects, conferences, and cultural programs. Located in Baku, ADA University began as a training institute to meet the needs of the Foreign Service of Azerbaijan and todays is an educational center with several schools offering both graduate and undergraduate degree programs. OAS Executive Secretary for Integral Development, Sherry Tross, welcomed this opportunity to work more closely with the Eurasian country and to provide opportunities to students of the Americas.
