OAS-SEDI: Forging New Partnerships for Development

Washington, DC. October 23, 2013
OAS and the Universidad de Guadalajara (UDEG), Mexico, sign cooperation agreement to expand scholarship opportunities in the Americas. Through the agreement, the UDEG will provide scholarships for graduate studies in its 19 campuses across the state of Guadalajara, Mexico, as well as training opportunities through the use of ICTs, thereby supporting human development in the Americas.

 

Trinidad & Tobago, October 16, 2013
OAS, Trinidad & Tobago and Virtual Educa sign MOU for the 2014 International Symposium.Trinidad and Tobago Education Minister, Dr. Tim Gopeesingh, announced that next year Virtual Educa will continue to bring together international, regional and local education stakeholders in the area of innovation in education for human development. In 2013 the symposium was held in Medellín, Colombia.

Panama, October 2, 2013
Trinidad & Tobago, new Chair Pro Tempore of the RIAC to host the VIII Americas Competitiveness Forum in 2014. During the Annual meeting of the Inter-American Competitiveness Network (RIAC) held in Panama, the government of Trinidad and Tobago took over as Chair Pro Tempore of the RIAC. At the inauguration of the VII ACF, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar shared the progress made by the country in preparation for the VIII ACF, which will be held on October 8-10, 2014 guided by the theme The Human Imagination at Work: Driving Competitiveness, Powering Innovation.

Panama, October 2, 2013
The Secretariat for Central American Integration (SIECA) and others join the RIAC During the Annual meeting of the RIAC held in Panama, the SIECA formally became a member of the Network as an institutional partner. The involvement of the SIECA is critical for the uptake of the “Compete Central America” Program supported by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) modeled after the Compete Caribbean initiative of the IDB. In this opportunity other partners also joined the RIAC, including: the Private Competitiveness Council of Costa Rica, The Competitiveness Institute of the Catholic University of Uruguay, and the University Autónoma del Caribe from Barranquilla, Colombia.
