OAS-SEDI: Forging New Partnerships for Development

OAS-UWI Partnership provides a new online training opportunity for Caribbean SMEs: The OAS-SEDI and the University of the West Indies (UWI) launch the first edition of the online course “New Market Opportunities for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Using Internet and Social Media” for Caribbean citizens. The course will be held from October 17 to December 11, 2013 through the OAS Educational Portal of the Americas. Registration is now open until September 30, 2013. Honduras to Host Inter-American Tourism Congress in September: An agreement to hold the 21st Inter-American Congress of Ministers and High Authorities of Tourism in Honduras on September 5 and 6, 2013 was signed by the Government of Honduras and the OAS. Geotourism will be the focus of the Ministerial meeting, highlighting the relationship between tourists and their environment in an effort to support sustainable tourism and economic development.

Agreement between the Government of Barbados, the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) and the OAS to strengthen the CTO. The tripartite agreement, which has been ratified over the years since it was first signed in 1976, will provide technical cooperation to the CTO to deliver services and programs to Caribbean countries in the area of tourism.

OAS-Honduras Sign an Agreement to Promote Sustainable Development Projects in the Trifinio Region. The Trifinio Region is considered an area of particular interest to Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador as it represents an indivisible ecological environment, and has a rich biodiversity, complex topography, fragile ecosystems, high vulnerability to natural disasters and limited access to water. The agreement will establish a regulatory framework for the development and implementation of projects and activities to address the problems of the populations in the area as well as the sustainable management of natural resources.
