OAS-SEDI: Forging New Partnerships for Development

The OAS and the L'Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) signed an agreement to develop joint research projects; promote capacity building for quality education and skills training, including through student exchanges, teacher preparation and professional development; and provide French language teaching and training programs; among other areas.

The COIMBRA group of universities in Brazil agreed to provide over 300 academic scholarships to be offered to citizens of OAS member states to pursue Masters and PhD degrees in Brazil during 2014.

The Government of Mexico will provide 500 scholarships offered by the Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología de (CONACYT) to citizens of OAS member states to pursue studies in engineering and science in Mexico.

The government of Turkey donated $100,000 to support the STEM program, an initiative which seeks to enhance educational opportunities, develop talent and improve labor competitiveness through preparation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The program further aims to strengthen the capacity of governmental agencies to initiate implementation of STEM education strategies from early childhood through primary, secondary and higher education, teacher education, professional development, and lifetime learning.

OAS and IDB sign agreement to develop and implement a Communications Outreach Strategy for the Pathways to Prosperity in the Americas Initiative, which provides a space for participating countries to exchange best practices and lessons learned, provide technical and research assistance, and discuss potential funding sources for the implementation of innovative policies that promote sustainable development.

OAS and the University of the West Indies sign an agreement to develop and deliver a post-graduate diploma course for public officers in Social Protection.
