IV MSMEs Dialogue

The authorities responsible for supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the Americas, representing 99% of the region’s businesses, exchanged experiences and identified potential areas for regional cooperation for the fourth time in the framework of OAS. The IV Inter-American Dialogue of High Authorities of MSMEs held April 16-17 in Washington, DC facilitated a rich exchange that concluded with a call to continue and strengthen this forum to address common challenges. » Read more

OAS Member States discuss the Post-2015 Development Agenda

Following a week-long tour of economic development sites and innovation centers in the Midwest United States, the Third Americas Competitiveness Exchange on Innovation and Entrepreneurship (ACE), co-organized by the OAS, came to a conclusion on April 24. High-level participants included 47 Ministers, Vice-ministers, private sector and academic leaders from 27 countries of the Americas, interested in exploring opportunities to increase trade with participating economies, accelerate business development, and further collaboration with different stakeholders. » Read more

Peru leads legal paradigm shift to benefit persons with disabilities

OAS Member States discuss the Post-2015 Development Agenda

It seems obvious that all people have the right to express and exercise their individual preferences and will when making legal decisions. Yet, this is not the case for millions of people living with disabilities in the region, who are forced to relegate their rights to a third party. The recognition of these rights represents a paradigm shift that is currently being promoted by the OAS, through the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (CEDDIS), and it’s Working Group which met in Lima, Peru on April 15 and 16. » Read more

 

Caribbean Entrepreneurs to explore innovative agricultural production

OAS Welcomes partners from the Mobiles for Education Alliance

The inauguration of the hydroponics site at Guyana’s National Agriculture Research Extension & Institute (NAREI) on April 27 marks a mile-stone in the promotion of innovative agricultural production systems as a model for local Caribbean entrepreneurship. The inauguration is part of a regional project supported by the OAS Development Cooperation Fund (DCF), designed to develop the knowledge and shade-house skills required for the construction and operation of shade-house plant growing facilities in five Caribbean countries. » Read more

 

The cruise industry and corporate social responsibility

OAS Member States discuss the Post-2015 Development Agenda

The worldwide boom in the cruise tourism industry represents an opportunity for growth and job creation in the Americas, but at the same time a challenge that must be managed by governments alongside the private sector. Providing a forum for cross-sectorial dialogue and responding to priorities set by port authorities, the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP) co-organized the First Hemispheric Convention on Cruise Tourism and Corporate Social Responsibility from April 8-10, in the city of Mar del Plata, Argentina. » Read more
