Closed Looped Cycle Production in Ecuador (2010-2013) - Phase I
The Closed Looped Cycle Production Program (CLCP) in the Americas was
implemented in Ecuador between 2010 and 2013 (Phase I) with the main
objective of introducing and showcase the viability and applicability of the
Closed Looped Cycle Production method in the Ecuadorian productive sector.
During almost two and half years of hard work, together with the Ministry of
Coordination of Production, Employment and Competitiveness in Ecuador, the OAS Department of Sustainable
Development (DSD) and consortium partners, were able to demonstrate the
feasibility of this methodology, by creating a national program on Closed
Looped Cycle Production and successfully certify an Ecuadorian product Cradle to Cradle
(C2C). Ecuador thus became the first Latin American country with a certified
product in C2C.
Specific Objective: To increase energy efficiency, productivity,
competitiveness and sustainability of small-medium-size enterprises (SMEs) from
the productive sector of Ecuador through the application of the closed-looped
cycle production philosophy.
Component 1 - Capacity Building: To create/improve capacity
of government and national enterprises, in particular SME’s in prioritized
sub-sectors to carry out C2C product development project(s) within the
Ecuadorian production sector.
Component 2 – Cooperation & Dialogue: To set up/establish an
institutional framework among all relevant stakeholders to facilitate
cooperation, dialogue and the proper design and implementation of C2C
development project(s) in the production sector of Ecuador.
Component 3 – Policy Development:
Establish a proper legal and regulatory framework to address market barriers in
order to incentivize and facilitate the production and introduction of the C2C
products in Ecuador.
Component 4 – Business Development:
To showcase and/or prove the profitability and sustainability of businesses
(including SMEs) within the production sector applying the C2C method.
