Strengthening public participation mechanisms for Sustainable Development Project

The DSD, with the support of the U.S Department of State, is working with CAFTA-DR countries to strengthen public participation mechanisms for sustainable development. This project aims to facilitate public participation in the decision-making process for sustainable development as well as to reveal the degree of implementation of the Inter-American Strategy for Public Participation in Decision Making for Sustainable Development (ISP) in these countries.

This project, implemented in the framework of the Pathways to Prosperity in the Americas Initiative, seeks to to improve access to information and to facilitate participation in existing formal opportunities and mechanisms for public participation at the national and regional level. The key components of the project are:

Component 1: Identify and compile available formal opportunities and mechanisms for public participation in decision-making for sustainable development at the national and regional level (those included within free trade agreements and international financial institutions).

  • Deadline extended to November 30, 2011: Call for proposals to identify public participation mechanisms for sustainable development in DR-CAFTA countries

Component 2: Increased base of knowledge of governments, individuals, and civil society to participate in sustainable development decision-making
