"GLOBAL SYMPOSIUM ON ENVIRONMENTAL RULE OF LAW" June 24, 2014, Nairobi, Kenya

The United Nations Environmental Assembly (UNEA) is the main rectifying organ of the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP). It is in charge of establishing the global environmental agenda, creating the essential political guidelines, and defining the political answers in order to affront the emergent environmental obstacles.

The Global Symposium on Environmental Rule of Law was held at the main headquarters of the UNEP in collaboration with the Africa Sustainability Center (ASCENT), the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS), and the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law. This meeting provided the opportunity to highlight, in a context that transgresses the UNEA, the importance of the rule of law and of the law to a healthy environment for the purposes of social and environmental development; this is particularly relevant to foreshadow the coming development of a post-2015 agenda for global development.
