The seventeenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties
(CoP 17) to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered
Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) will be held in
Johannesburg, South Africa, from 24 September to 5 October
2016. The thirteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties
(COP 13) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD),
the eighth meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving
as the meeting of Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety
(COP MOP 8) and the second meeting of the Conference of
the Parties serving as the meeting of Parties to the Nagoya
Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing (COP MOP 2) will
be held in Cancun, Mexico, from 4 to 17 December 2016.
The Secretary-General of CITES, the Executive Secretary
of CBD and the General Secretariat of the OAS have convened
a regional joint preparatory meeting for Latin America and
the Caribbean (LAC) for CITES CoP 17 and CBD COP 13, COP
MOP 8 and COP MOP 2 in Antigua, Guatemala, from 22 to 26
August 2016. The meeting will be held at Hotel Soleil Antigua.
Joint notifications were issued by the CITES Secretariat
and the CBD Secretariat, inviting the nomination by Parties
of representatives to this regional joint preparatory meeting
(CITES Notification 2016/044 and CBD Notification 2016-077,
10 June 2016; and CITES Notification 2016/044 and CBD Notification
2016-084, 30 June 2016). The workshop will be conducted
in English with simultaneous interpretation in Spanish.
