Cleaner Production and Energy Efficiency in South America

FIDA in collaboration with the Network of High Counselors and Government Officials for Cleaner Production in the Americas and with the financial support of the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) worked on a project to support cleaner production and energy efficiency policies in South America. As part of this project FIDA hosted a 2-week virtual dialogue on Industrial Cleaner Production and Energy Efficiency policies.

This web-based dialogue included: experts on line, a virtual roundtable, an inter-active library, and an electronic questionnaire aimed at determining the state of clean production policy in the region. The dialogue took place from June 3 - 14, 2002.


Cleaner Production and Energy Efficiency in Central America

The Inter-American Forum on Environmental Law (FIDA) in March 2003 hosted a Central America regional Workshop on Industrial Cleaner Production and Energy Efficiency policies in cooperation with the Central American Commission on Environment and Development (CCAD), the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The workshop, which took place on March 21 and 22 in Managua, Nicaragua was a great success and served to highlight the opportunities for governments to support industrial behavior change toward methods of operation and technologies that produce less pollution. l Presentation: Cleaner Production Policy: an international and comparative perspective l The Situation of Cleaner Production Policies and its Implementation Mechanisms in Central America

Cleaner Production and Energy Efficiency in the Caribbean

FIDA participated in a Caribbean regional workshop on promoting and implementing cleaner production projects at manufacturing and tourism facilities, presenting a vision of policy options for governments in the region. The workshop was hosted by the World Environment Center (WEC) and took place on May 7 and 8, 2002 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and more details can be found through the WEC website.
