Dialogue of workers' representatives with Ministers of Foreign Affairs in the framework of the Fifth Summit of the Americas

Leaders of the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas (TUCA-CSA) and the Trade Union Technical Advisory Council (COSATE) held a dialogue with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and their delegates in the framework of the Fifth Summit of the Americas.

During the dialogue, Linda Chávez-Thompson, President of TUCA, Robert Giuseppi, President of COSATE and Victor Baez Mosqueira, Secretary of TUCA, presented their comments to the Declaration of Commitment of Port Spain and their Workers’ Declaration, elaborated during the Workers Forum of the Americas that took place on April 15th and 16th in Port of Spain.

The Ministers and other high officers from the government, including the U.S. Labor Secretary, Ms. Hilda Solis and the Minister of Labor of Trinidad and Tobago, Mr. Rennie Dumas, showed their satisfaction with this space for dialogue that continues to be strengthened within the framework of the Summit. The ministers and officers also commented on the efforts that their governments are doing to guarantee the respect of fundamental principles and rights at work and to face the current economic crisis, with the purpose of mitigating impacts on employment.

In the dialogue, more than 30 trade union leaders of the region were present, including several Presidents and General Secretaries of important unions and confederations.
