XLIII General Assembly of the OAS

Dialogue of the Heads of Delegation and Secretary General with the Representatives of the workers, private sector and civil society in the framework of the XLIII General Assembly of the OAS

Venue: Hotel Casa Santo Domingo, Salón Mayor - La Antigua, Guatemala

A common space for dialogue among workers, private sector and civil society with the Heads of Delegation and the General Secretary of the OAS was held once again in the General Assembly of the OAS.

On this occasion, the workers representatives presented the Workers Declaration with regards to the 43 General Assembly's theme "For a Comprehensive Policy against the World Drug Problem in the Americas" where they captured their perspective on the matter. Among other affirmations, the workers expressed the need of a comprehensive policy from a Human Rights approach in order to face this scourge.

The presentation was made by Amanda Villatoro, Secretary for Trade Union Policy and Education, Francisco Quijano, Chair of COSATE, and Alberto Ramirez, Secretary General of the Central General de Trabajadores of Guatemala.

Informal Conversation between the Secretary General of the OAS and the Representatives of Civil Society Organizations

The workers representatives, together with representatives of the civil society, had the opportunity to offer their points of view on the General Assembly's theme as well as other topic on the Inter-American agenda. 

Workers' Preparatory Meeting

Date: June 3, 2013 – 1:00 pm to 5:30 p.m.
Venue: Hotel Camino Real - La Antigua, Guatemala

This meeting was organized by the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas (TUCA) and COSATE with the objectives of coordinating the interventions during the dialogue, sharpening the position document and considering any other areas of interest of the trade union sector of the region.
