The second meeting was convened by the Chair of the Committee on June 10th, 2008 and took place in Brasilia, Brazil, from July 28th to August 1st, 2008. The meeting aimed to prepare a report on the progressive implementation of the Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (CIADDIS), which would then be submitted to the knowledge of the General Assembly during its next regular session.

Additionally, other topics were discussed such as the need to create synergies with the Convention for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities adopted within the United Nations, as well as the Program of Action for the Decade of the Americas for the Rights and Dignity of Persons with Disabilities. On these and other issues, the Committee approved resolution CEDDIS/RES.1/08.

Moreover, the Committee revised its Rules of Procedure in regard to the criteria for the composition of the governing bodies of the Committee, the criteria for the appointment of its members, and the definition of civil society participation in the Committee and its contributions to the reports.

Similarly, it was discussed the parameters for measuring the progress made by the States Parties on implementing the CIADDIS. In regard to this topic, it was agreed that a substantive document should be drafted and presented during the Third Meeting of the Committee.  

This second meeting was attended by delegations from the following States Parties: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela.return
