Surinamese Applicants

All original documents submitted with your scholarship application must be submitted in English, including a non-official translation of your transcripts and diploma, if they were in Dutch. If you are selected to receive a scholarship, you will be required to submit an official translation of your transcript and diploma for placement purposes.

If you wish to study in a Spanish-Speaking Country (including  Puerto Rico), French-Speaking Country, or Brazil:

In addition to the general eligibility and documents requirements mentioned before, you should comply with the following requirements:

Additional eligibility requirements:

  • Be proficient in Spanish (Spanish-Speaking country), French (French-Speaking Canada), or Portuguese (Brazil).
  • Selected candidates, who wish to study in Puerto Rico, if selected for an OAS Scholarship must apply for a J1 Visa.

Interested applicants, who wish to study in any other OAS Member State, or in a different language than their native language, please see requirements and additional documentation you may need, according to the prefered country of study.

If you wish to study in the United States or English-Speaking Canada:

In addition to the general eligibility and documents requirements mentioned before, you should comply with the following requirements:

Additional eligibility requirements:

  • Be proficient in English.
  • Selected candidates, who wish to study in the United States, if slected for an OAS Scholarship must apply for a J1 Visa.  

Additional required documents:

  • TOEFL – The minimum required score is 600/677 for the paper exam, 250/300 for the computer based exam, and 100/120 for the Internet exam. (The TOEFL is the only test accepted by the OAS. No exceptions)
  • GRE or GMAT – Depending on the program of study. We strongly suggest that you view the webpage of the OAS Consortium of Universities to identify the programs which require the GRE or GMAT, and the minimum required scores.

All costs related to taking the TOEFL, GRE or GMAT tests, are the responsibility of the applicant.
