Types of Stories

News Stories

News stories should be accurate recitations of the facts. Do not include opinion or overly descriptive words, unless it is part of a quote. Below are listed examples of the various events that are covered:

Examples:

Opening Closing Ceremonies, Head Delegate's general statements, Receptions, Goals and expectations of the Model's officers, Profiles of the MOAS officers, Interesting delegates or faculty, First Time Participants, OAS Consultants and other staff, Hotel Parties (theme parties are good to capture).

The Writing Process

To achieve a professional article or story follows the process below.

Organize your information and do not be afraid to ask subjects for copies of their speeches. Get to know your General Secretariat Staff members, as they are invaluable resources of information.

Use quotes whenever possible as they make a story interesting and allow you to remain objectives. Be careful and do not distort quotes. This type of error can be damaging to the individual providing the quote and to the reporter as well. It is the responsibility of every reporter to verify his/her quotes.

Use attributive words in the use of quotes that are diverse, e.g., instead of "he said, she said," use: said the delegate, expressed, stated, explained, noted, clarified, conveyed, emphasized, stressed.
