OAS Secretary General Welcomes Normalization of Colombia-Ecuador Relations

  November 27, 2010

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, welcomed the normalization of relations between Colombia and Ecuador, announced by Presidents Juan Manuel Santos and Rafael Correa. "It is great news to all, the culmination of a process of dialogue and rapprochement conducted over recent months," he said.

Secretary General Insulza added that "this agreement is favorable to both countries, which share many ties of brotherhood and a common history of many years." He recalled that "the OAS acted swiftly thirty months ago, when the events that led to their alienation from each other took place, and it has continued to support efforts aimed at reaching this outcome."

"It's a great day for the entire continent," the OAS Secretary General concluded.
