OAS Assistant Secretary General Joins Mourners at Funeral of Barbados Prime Minister David Thompson

  November 4, 2010

The Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Ambassador Albert Ramdin, joined thousands of mourners, heads of government, dignitaries and delegations from around the world this week in saying farewell to Barbados Prime Minister David Thompson. Thompson was laid to rest following a State funeral at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Assistant Secretary General Ramdin, who represented the OAS leadership at the funeral, said he was “deeply moved by the outpouring of grief and show of solidarity in Barbados, in the wake of the national and regional tragedy.”

The second in command of the political hemispheric body again expressed deep sympathies to the family of the late Prime Minister and to the people of Barbados on behalf of the General Secretariat and OAS Member States. “At times like these, we remember both the frailty of human life, and the strength of brotherhood. Prime Minister David Thompson was a remarkable leader. Even in death, he achieved great unity.”
