OAS Deploys Observers for Elections in Bolivia

The Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS/EOM) for the general elections of October 12 in Bolivia, under the leadership of former President of Guatemala Alvaro Colom, deployed a mobile group that will tour the country to observe the development of the electoral process.

In order to conduct a comprehensive analysis of this process, the Mission will be composed of experts on electoral organization and technology, campaign finance, equal participation of men and women, media analysis, electoral security, resolution of electoral disputes and the vote of citizens from abroad. On Election Day, the Mission will deploy 63 observers in all departments of the Plurinational State of Bolivia.

During the week prior to the election, the Chief of Mission, who was appointed to the office by the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, will hold meetings with presidential candidates, governmental and electoral authorities, members of civil society and the international community.
