OAS Secretary General Names Chief of Electoral Observation Mission to Belize

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, today designated Ambassador Jacinth Henry-Martin as Chief of the OAS Electoral Observation Mission (EOM) to the November 4, 2015 general elections in Belize.

Ambassador Henry- Martin, a national of St. Kitts and Nevis, currently serves as Chief of Staff to the OAS Secretary General. She was previously the Permanent Representative of St. Kitts and Nevis to the OAS for several years and has also held ministerial positions in her native country.

The Deputy Chief of Mission will be Paul Spencer from the OAS Secretariat for Political Affairs and the General Coordinator will be Julieta Maroni, Specialist in the Department of Electoral Cooperation and Observation.

The OAS/EOM to Belize, consisting of 12 Observers from 9 different countries, will begin its deployment on October 28, 2015 and will have a presence in most of the 6 districts in the country.

This will be the second OAS/EOM to Belize, the first having been deployed to the March 7, 2012 general and municipal elections.

On Sunday, October 25, the OAS will deploy three simultaneous Electoral Observation Missions with more than 230 observers in three subregions of the Hemisphere: Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Specifically, observers will be present in Haiti, Guatemala and Colombia. It will be the first time that three EOMs are deployed on the same day since the first Mission in 1962.
