OAS and Supreme Electoral Tribunal of Honduras Sign Agreement on Electoral Observation Procedures

  August 22, 2013

The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) signed an agreement with the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) of Honduras on the observation procedures for the general elections to be held on November 24, 2013.

The agreement with the TSE ensures full access to the information required by the Electoral Observation Mission (EOM/OAS), while the OAS commits itself to carry out its observation functions in the framework of the sovereignty of the state and the Honduran Constitution.

The activity took place in the context of the preliminary visit of the Chief of the EOM/OAS, Enrique Correa, to Honduras. During the visit, the Mission will be meeting with various electoral, governmental and political authorities, as well as representatives of the national and international community.

The Mission will continue to monitor the electoral process ahead of the general election and plans to deploy observers in much of the country in order to learn about both the development of the electoral administration and organization and the political campaigns.
