  October 3, 2015

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, while supporting the work of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) in Mexico, highlighted the openness and transparency of the government of President Peña Nieto.

On Friday the IACHR concluded a visit to Mexico in response to an invitation from the Mexican government.

"The IACHR is a key part of the Inter-American system to which the most vulnerable people of our Hemisphere appeal, and therefore has my support," said Secretary General Almagro.

The OAS leader also highlighted the attitude of the Mexican government, saying "governments may or may not agree with some findings of the IACHR, but the most important thing is that Commission is able to carry out its work with guarantees, something that Mexico has always ensured."

The Government of Mexico also agreed to continue funding the work of the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI), designated by the IACHR to investigate the disappearance of 43 student in Ayotzinapa, Mexico.
