OAS Permanent Council Approves 16 Development Projects for Consideration by the General Assembly in Cochabamba

The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) today approved 16 draft resolutions of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI) to be considered by the General Assembly of the hemispheric organization, to be held in Cochabamba, Bolivia, from June 3 to 5.

The projects submitted to the General Assembly include documents relating to access to water as a human right, the mandate of the Working Group of the Permanent Executive Committee of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CEPCIDI), the strengthening of CEPCIDI and its bodies, the extension of the term of the Strategic Plan for Partnership for Integral Development 2006-2009, the Seventh Regular Meeting of the Inter-American Committee on Ports, and the declaration of 2013 as the International Year of Quinoa.

At the same Permanent Council meeting, representatives of the Member States approved the referral to the General Assembly of another group of resolutions from the Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Affairs (CAAP), including one regarding the human resources policy of the OAS General Secretariat and another on the role of the Inspector General of the organization.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Permanent Council observed a minute of silence in honor of the late Mexican writer Carlos Fuentes.
