OAS Secretary General Sends Condolences on Passing of Peter Bell

  April 8, 2014

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today sent his condolences and that of the institution he leads to the wife and family of Peter Bell, Chair Emeritus of the Inter-American Dialogue, on his passing.

“At the Organization of American States, we benefit from the years Peter spent fighting to bring democracy and respect for human rights to many countries in Latin America,” wrote Secretary General Insulza. In his letter to the widow of Peter Bell, Insulza recalled that “in Chile, as you well know, he is very much remembered and loved by many of my fellow Chileans who thank him for his protection and courage in times of need.”

The OAS leader added that “Everyone who knew Peter was touched by his intellect, his kindness and his commitment to understanding and improving our world.” “His life’s work had a great and positive impact on diplomacy and development in the Americas and he will be sorely missed,” wrote Secretary General Insulza, who concluded “my thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time.”
