OAS Secretary General Congratulates Prime Minister of Barbados

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today sent a letter of congratulations to the Prime Minister of Barbados, Freundel Stuart, for the victory of his party in the general elections of February 21 and for his reappointment as the country’s leader.

In his letter, Secretary General Insulza wrote that the vote showed the confidence of the people of Barbados in the plans of the government of Prime Minister Stuart. The victory, continued the leader of the hemispheric organization, took place in a very competitive environment combined with an exemplary atmosphere of peace, freedom and justice, as is the tradition in the Caribbean country. “I congratulate the people of Barbados,’ he added.

In his conclusion, the Secretary General offered to Prime Minister Stuart and his government “the support of the OAS,” and assured him “that the organization stands ready to work with you in advancing your country’s development objectives and priorities.”
