OAS Secretary General Mourns Death of Venezuelan Student

  February 25, 2015

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, mourned the death of Venezuelan student Kluivert Ferney Roa Núñez, which took place yesterday during street protests in the State of Táchira. Secretary General Insulza sent his condolences to the family of the young student and welcomed the timely action of the judicial bodies of Venezuela to clarify the event and identify the person responsible.

Together with condemning the violence, “wherever it comes from,” Secretary General Insulza said “as long as the steps needed to begin an inclusive dialogue that leads to reconciliation between Venezuelans do not take place, other innocent citizens could become victims of this violence.”

Therefore the leader of the hemispheric body once again urged the government and the opposition “to create the conditions to generate a democratic space in which that inclusive dialogue is possible.”
