  January 8, 2015

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, expressed his “most sincere condolences” to the government and people of France “over the tragic attack committed against the staff of the Parisian weekly Charlie Hebdo,” which took the life of twelve people.

In a letter senT to the President of France, François Hollande, Secretary General Insulza writes that “the OAS unreservedly condemns this act of terrorism that threatens freedom of the press and freedom of expression,” and expresses his support “to the government and people of France at this difficult time.”

The leader of the hemispheric Organization concludes the letter stating that “we are shocked by this terrible act and send to you our deepest sympathies.”
