OAS Co-Organizes Workshop on Social Protection and Employment in Mexico City

The Organization of American States (OAS) will co-organize from December 10-12 in Mexico City an intersectoral workshop on social protection and employment entitled “Toward an intersectoral focus on social protection in the Americas: Labor, social development and social security.”
The event, organized by the OAS through the Inter-American Network for Labor Administration (RIAL) the Inter-American Social Protection Network (IASPN), and the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS), together with the Government of Mexico, has as its main objectives the presentation of recent developments in the intersectoral approach among labor, social development and social security authorities to address social protection, and to identify their respective contributions to the construction of comprehensive social protection systems.
The inauguration of the workshop will feature the participation of the Executive Secretary for Integral Development of the OAS, Sherry Tross; the Secretary General of the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CISS), Juan Lozano; the Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare of Mexico, Alfonso Navarrete; and the Secretary of Social Development of Mexico, Rosario Robles. The activity is a follow-up to the “Seminar on Intersectoral Public Policies: Social Protection, Labor and Employment” held in 2010 in Brazil.
