OAS Secretary General Presents Report on the Drug Problem in the Americas at ECLAC in Santiago, Chile

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, will deliver a lecture on "The Problem of Drugs in the Americas" on Monday, July 1 at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile.

The OAS Secretary General will be received at 11:00 local time (15:00 GMT) by the Executive Secretary of ECLAC, Alicia Barcena, and then he will present the Report on the Drug Problem in the Americas, that was prepared by the OAS under his direction in response to the mandate given by the VI Summit of the Americas, in April 2012.

The drug report, presented in May, was already the focus of dialogue at the XLIII OAS General Assembly, held in early June in Guatemala, and which ended with the Declaration of La Antigua Guatemala.

The comments about the report will be delivered by Chilean Senator Jaime Orpis; Chilean congressman, Carlos Montes, and Martin Hopenhayn, Director of the Social Development Division of ECLAC.
