OAS to Hold 60th Policy Roundtable on the Drug Problem in the Americas and the Challenge of Reducing Incarceration

  September 5, 2014

The Organization of American States (OAS) will hold the 60th Policy Roundtable of the hemispheric institution, entitled "Multisectoral Perspectives on the Drug Problem in the Americas: the Challenge of Reducing Incarceration," on Monday, September 8, at 15:00 EDT (19:00 GMT) at the headquarters of the Organization in Washington, DC.

The event aims to promote a broad discussion to identify possible solutions for guiding drug policy in the Hemisphere in the coming years. To this end, a panel of experts will present and discuss the drug problem in the region, a forum that serves as a prelude to the OAS Special General Assembly that will take place in Guatemala City on September 19 in order to discuss the drug problem in the region and the world.

The Roundtable is organized by the following OAS organs: the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD), the Summits of the Americas Secretariat, and the Department of International Affairs (DIA).

The meeting will be broadcast live on the OAS Website.
