OAS Organizes International Seminar on Modernization of Municipal Management

The Organization of American States (OAS) will organize, this Thursday and Friday, May 30 and 31, 2013, the International Seminar on Modernization of Municipal Management in Guadalajara, Mexico, with the participation of mayors from municipalities in Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Mexico, and experts in citizen participation, electronic government, public administration, transparency and access to information.
The event, co-organized by the Secretariat for Political Affairs of the OAS, through the Department for Effective Public Management, together with the Mexican state of Jalisco and the International Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), looks to generate a dialogue through successful experiences and best practices in municipal management, as well as spreading concrete tools that contribute to a more transparent, efficient, effective and participative public administration, in service to the citizenry. The inauguration of the event will feature addresses from the General Secretary of the government of Jalisco, Arturo Zamora Jiménez; the Secretary for Political Affairs of the OAS, Kevin Casas-Zamora; and the Corporate Director for Institutional Development and Special Issues of the International Development Bank, Víctor Rico.
Among the issues that will be discussed are the promotion of transparency and access to public information, the incorporation of Information and Communication Technologies (ITCs) in municipal administrations, “Smart City” strategies, and the promotion of the use of tools for strategic management, institutional design and performance management, among others. The seminar is aimed at municipal government authorities, associations of municipalities, political leaders, managers and public servants, municipal technical teams, professionals, practitioners, researchers and academics interested in the modernization of municipal management to strengthen democratic governance.
