OAS Anti-Corruption Mechanism Makes Follow-up Visit to Honduras

  April 14, 2016

The anti-corruption mechanism of the Organization of American States (OAS) will visit Honduras on April 18 - 21 to follow up on the recommendations made in the areas of transparency, integrity and accountability in the country. During the visit, experts from Argentina and Antigua and Barbuda, supported by the OAS General Secretariat will meet with Honduran authorities, representatives of civil society, the private sector, professional associations, academics and researchers.

The Mechanism for Follow-Up on the Implementation of the Inter-American Convention against Corruption (MESICIC) is the tool that converts the Convention - which is the main agreement of the region in anti-corruption matters -from paper to reality. As part of the visit, a public event will be held on Monday, April 18 to explain the functioning of MESICIC, the on-site visits, and its contribution to the Mission to Support the Fight against Corruption and Impunity in Honduras (MACCIH) which will be installed next week in the country.

The meeting will be open to the press and will take place in the "Guanacaste" room of the Marriott Hotel at 14:00 local time (20:00 GMT). Taking part in the event will be the Spokesman of the MACCIH, Ambassador Juan Jimenez; the Judge President of the High Court of Auditors (TSC), Miguel Angel Mejia Espinoza; and the Director of the Department of Legal Cooperation of the OAS, Jorge García González. The opening ceremony will include a message from the OAS Secretary General, Luis Almagro.
