OAS and Government of Barbados Organize Caribbean Conference on Social Protection

The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Government of Barbados will host on January 19 and 20 in St. Michael (Barbados), the Caribbean Conference on Horizontal Cooperation in Social Protection. Among the event’s objectives are to contribute to the improvement of strategies on the subject and explore opportunities for collaboration between countries in the region.

Permanent Missions and high-level authorities from the Caribbean are expected to participate in the conference, which is coordinated by the OAS Department of Social Development and Employment together with the Barbados Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development.

The event is expected to provide an opportunity to showcase country experiences in horizontal cooperation in social protection, such as the Puente in the Caribbean cooperation program, with the objective of improving strategies on the subject. Furthermore, within the framework of the Inter-American Social Protection Network (IASPN), the conference will provide a space for dialogue on the main challenges and the results of international cooperation in this field, as well as explore new possibilities for joint work.
