The new Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the Organization of American States (OAS), Rita Claverie, today presented her credentials to the Secretary General of the hemispheric body, Luis Almagro.

Ambassador Claverie highlighted her country's commitment to the values of the Organization. "I am very pleased to join the work being carried out at the OAS, around the pillars of democracy, human rights, integral development and multidimensional security, with which Guatemala is fully identified," she said.

For his part, Secretary General Almagro recalled the alignment of the Central American country with the defense of democracy in the political debates of the Organization. "Guatemala is an active member of the OAS and the contribution of its diplomatic corps has been fundamental in defending the Organization's core values," he said.
