The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE) of the Dominican Republic will collaborate to implement a quality management system under the ISO standards applied to the electoral process system, in order to provide greater transparency.
The Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, indicated that countries of the region that choose to do a certification of their electoral standards have higher levels of trust in their systems. "The agreement aims to contribute to the strengthening of electoral processes, especially those linked to the resolution of electoral disputes," Almagro said when signing the collaboration agreement with the TSE.
For his part, the Chairman of the TSE, Román Jáquez, highlighted the commitment of his country to the transparency of democratic institutions. “It is a big step to be able to start certification work in electoral ISO in two fundamental aspects of democracy, such as conflicts resolution and the training aspects," said Jáquez, who attended the signing ceremony accompanied by the TSE magistrate, Rafaelina Peralta.
The ISO standards are a set of international standards aimed at improving the management of an entity under a high quality criteria. In the agreement between the OAS and the TSE the ISO standards will be applied to electoral matters.
