OAS Secretary General meets with European Union Director for the Americas

The Organization of American States (OAS) Secretary General, José Miguel Insulza, met today with European Union (EU) Director for the Americas, Christian Leffler, and the EU Ambassador in Bolivia, Kenny Bell, and reaffirmed the commitment to continued cooperation to protect human rights in the hemisphere.

The meeting was being held on the margins of the OAS General Assembly, which opens in Cochabamba, Bolivia, today and ends on June 5.

Besides their commitment to human rights, both sides also exchanges views on cooperation around the issue of security, with Secretary General Insulza recalling the mandate that the OAS received from the recently held Summit of the Americas, to evaluate regional anti-drugs strategies.

Also participating at the meeting were the Secretary General’s Chief of Staff, Ambassador Hugo de Zela, and the OAS Secretary for External Relations, Ambassador Alfonso Quiñónez.
