The Permanent Representative of El Salvador, Carlos Alberto Calles, today assumed the Chair of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI) of the Organization of American States (OAS) with a call to fulfill the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) established by the United Nations for 2030.

The Salvadoran diplomat indicated that he will promote dialogue among the member states on priority issues for the development of the region. CIDI is the body "par excellence where we meet to build synergies, and in this context El Salvador assumes this commitment with the conviction that sustainable national, regional and hemispheric development is an unavoidable necessity to effectively combat poverty," he said.

For his part, the outgoing President of CIDI, the Permanent Representative of Ecuador, Marco Albuja, said that it is necessary for member countries to work along transversal lines, especially in public policies, to successfully achieve the sustainable development of the region, and called for greater economic support "The Permanent Council plays a good role in political discussion, but solutions for the people are in CIDI, and resolutions cannot be executed if there are no resources from the countries," he added.
