The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today with the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Yury Fedotov, at Organization headquarters in Washington, DC.

Secretary General Insulza and the Executive Director of the UNODC, who is soon to begin a work mission in Central America, spoke about issues of security in the region. In particular, the head of the OAS offered him a perspective on the new and traditional threats of greatest significance to public security in Central America and other parts of the Hemisphere, such as drug trafficking, intellectual piracy, cybercrime, and human and arms trafficking, among others.

At the same time, the two authorities reasserted their commitment to continue to collaborate on related issues of common interest.
