The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today with the Director General for Latin America and the Caribbean from the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bernhard von Waldersee, on the occasion of the Organization’s 41st General Assembly, which begins tomorrow in El Salvador.
During their meeting, Secretary General Insulza and the German diplomat discussed the Hemisphere’s current political agenda, the state of democracy in the region, and the Inter-American Democratic Charter, which this year celebrates its tenth anniversary.
The hemispheric organization’s top official said that democracy in Latin America “was following a very good path,” and he expressed his interest in working with the member states on the concept of “efficient government that can solve problems.” Von Waldersee noted that his country shares the “same values as the OAS” and stated his interest in Germany and the Organization strengthening their ties and developing “joint commitments.”
