The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, was welcomed today by the President of El Salvador, Mauricio Funes, on the occasion of the 41st OAS General Assembly.

During the meeting, held at the President’s residence in El Salvador, President Funes highlighted the importance of the theme chosen for the Assembly: “Citizen Security in the Americas.” The President and the Secretary General agreed on the opportunity the Assembly represents for the governments of the continent to debate such an important issue for the entire region.

The General Assembly, the governing body of the OAS that meets at a regular session once a year, will bring together the ministers of foreign affairs of the Member States of the OAS from June 5 to 7 in San Salvador.
